Echo Techs perform echocardiograms using ultrasound technology to capture images of the heart’s chambers, valves, and blood flow. These diagnostic studies help cardiologists detect and evaluate heart conditions such as murmurs, valve disease, or cardiomyopathy. Echo Techs work in hospitals, cardiology clinics, and diagnostic imaging centers.
Echo Techs typically require the following certifications:
Echo Techs must complete an accredited cardiac sonography or diagnostic medical sonography program, which may result in a certificate, associate, or bachelor’s degree. After graduation, certification as an RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) is typically required and demonstrates competency in cardiac imaging. Continuing education is often needed to maintain certification.
