What to Expect

CT Techs use computerized medical technology to perform non-invasive scans for diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment planning. They work with patients, maintain and prepare equipment, and communicate with doctors. Attention to detail and patience are crucial in this role.

Certifications

CT Techs require the following certifications:

  • Computed tomography certification
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Education

CT Techs must have a high school degree or GED. They may pursue an Associate's Degree (AD) with a focus on radiography, diagnostic medical sonography, or nuclear medicine technology. Certification in computed tomography from the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is also necessary.

Responsibilities

CT Techs have the following responsibilities:

  • Performing non-invasive CT scans
  • Diagnosing, evaluating, and planning treatment
  • Maintaining and preparing equipment
  • Communicating with doctors
