The Villages, FL is a sprawling age-restricted community that spreads across parts of Sumter, Lake, and Marion counties in central Florida. With nearly all residents past retirement age, the allied work tilts heavily toward outpatient care, and rehab centers and diagnostic labs stay busy across the development. US-27 and US-441 are the main north-south highways through the area. Florida's Turnpike runs along the south side, and Ocala is about twenty miles north. Golf carts do much of the local driving here, on more than a hundred miles of dedicated paths and cart-legal streets. Orlando is roughly an hour southeast for its airport and the largest hospitals.
