New York Nursing License Renewal
Renewal Timeline
New York RN licenses are renewed every three years, and your expiration date is set to fall during your birth month.
- Renewal: Every 3 years
- Birth-month alignment: NYSED adjusts your first period so future renewals fall in your birth month.
- Renewal window: Begins up to 5 months before expiration; a PIN is sent with your renewal notice.
- Late renewal: Online renewal is available for 4 months after expiration ($10 per month of delay).
If lapsed beyond 4 months, you must complete NYSED’s Delayed Registration process.
Renewal Requirements
To maintain your New York nursing license, you must renew every 3 years through NYSED and complete the mandated Infection Control training (every 4 years) and the one-time Child Abuse course.

- Section 2 of the Cert of Professional Education Form MUST be completed by your Nursing School Institution:

4.) Submit Verification of RN License for any other states you hold licensure

- Verification Cost – $30 – pay online via Nursys.
- If the state does not participate in Nursys verifications, you must submit the New York Verification of Other Professional Licensure Form to that state’s BON.
