Explore Kula, HI

On the cool upper slopes of Haleakala, Kula, HI spreads across the farms and ranch land of Upcountry Maui at around three thousand feet. Physical therapy clinics and outpatient surgery centers cover the modest allied caseload in this small mountain community. The Kula Highway, Route 37, threads through the area, with Route 377 branching toward the volcano's summit. Kahului sits about ten miles down the mountain to the northwest, roughly half an hour by car, and holds the island's main airport along with its largest hospital. Onions, protea, lavender, and coffee grow in the volcanic soil, and paniolo ranching runs through the higher pastures. The drive down to Kahului is the link to most specialty care and to flights between the islands.
