What makes UVM Medical Center's role unusual in the region?
It's Vermont's only academic medical center and the only Level I (adult) trauma center in the state, serving as the tertiary referral hospital for about one million people across Vermont and northern New York.
Is it Level I for pediatrics too?
No — it's an ACS-verified Level I Adult / Level II Pediatric trauma center. It was, however, the first U.S. hospital verified for both adults and children.
What EMR does UVM use?
Epic. UVM Medical Center transitioned to Epic in 2019.
What's the NICU situation?
UVM has the only NICU in Vermont (Level III), so neonatal RNs here cover the state's most fragile newborns.
How busy is the ED?
The 45-bed emergency department (10 beds for trauma and resuscitation) runs more than 65,000 visits a year, with a separate pediatric ED.
