Two of the country's largest casinos sit just outside Norwich, CT, and their workforce helps anchor the wider economy of this inland New London County city. Norwich stands at the head of the Thames River, where the Yantic and Shetucket meet, about fourteen miles up from the coast at New London. Imaging centers and therapy centers are where a good share of the allied workload lands locally. I-395 is the main interstate, with Route 2 running west toward Hartford and Route 2A crossing the river toward the casinos and Foxwoods. The SEAT bus links the city with New London, Groton, and the gaming resorts. Settled in 1659, Norwich keeps the nickname the Rose City. Hartford is the drive, roughly forty miles northwest, for the nearest large airport.
