Tennessee ER Jobs: License, Certs, and Markets
How soon can I start an ER job in Tennessee?
For most nurses, as soon as credentialing clears. Tennessee's a compact state, so a multistate license plus a compact home address means nothing extra to file. If your license is single-state, or you've moved outside the compact, you'll apply to Tennessee first and wait on the board's clock. That's the part worth starting early.
What certifications do Tennessee ER jobs require?
You'll need BLS and ACLS. PALS comes in where kids are part of the department's work, and Tennessee runs four regional pediatric centers that take a lot of that volume, so plenty of adult ERs send children elsewhere. TNCC helps at the trauma centers, and the state designates 17 for adults. A recent year or two in the ER is the norm.
Does ER pay in Tennessee follow the big cities?
Not really. Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, and Chattanooga have the most jobs, but weekly pay follows how hard a job is to fill, and that's usually a rural or regional problem rather than a metro one. Read the chart above instead of assuming Nashville comes out on top. It ranks live weekly pay across Tennessee cities.
Where's the ER work in Tennessee?
Four separate metros plus a wide regional network. Designated centers treated 46,344 trauma patients in 2023, and six adult Level I centers sit at the top of that. The state's long enough that Memphis and Knoxville are completely different job markets, so pick your base first and then set a radius around it.
