Explore Juneau, AK

No road reaches Juneau, AK; the capital sits wedged between mountains and sea, accessible only by air or ferry, and its hospital serves the city plus a scatter of southeast Alaska communities beyond. Emergency and medical-surgical assignments fill most of the contracts, in a setting where an ordinary commute might include eagles overhead. The Mendenhall Glacier calves into its lake just twenty minutes from downtown. Whale-watching runs all summer, and trails climb straight from the residential streets into alpine country within an hour. A place here is tight, so early arrangements matter. Cruise season floods downtown with visitors from May through September, and then the whole town exhales. Rain is constant company through the year, and locals will tell anyone who asks that it keeps the place green.
