Where Will You Actually Work?
Confirm whether you will report to one primary facility, rotate among locations, or travel throughout a home health service area.
The right travel PT housing choice is the home base that fits your work setting, commute, dates, and full housing cost, not simply the lowest rent. Use this guide to compare housing types, all-in costs, drive time, lease terms, and stipend factors before you book. You can also search travel PT jobs, compare travel PT pay, or review PT licensing requirements as you evaluate the assignment.
A lower-priced rental can become the more expensive choice if the lease dates do not match the assignment, the commute adds substantial time and expense, or the cancellation terms leave you exposed when plans change.

Living alone, traveling with a partner or pet, or sharing with another healthcare traveler changes the space, privacy, parking, and flexibility you may need.

Two travelers in one furnished two-bedroom can each keep a private room while lowering what each person pays compared with renting alone. Sharing can meaningfully reduce each traveler's housing cost when the property and lease make the split worthwhile. Actual savings depend on the property, market, utilities, deposits, parking, and how costs are divided.
Former coworkers and clinician networks, other travelers starting at the same facility, and moderated travel-healthcare housing groups. A familiar name is a good start, but run the same lease and property checks you would with a stranger.
A travel PT pay package may include taxable wages along with reimbursements or stipends for eligible travel-related expenses, depending on the assignment and the traveler's circumstances.
The housing decision should not be reduced to housing stipend minus rent = savings. A lower monthly rent can still be the more expensive choice after you add a long commute, parking, utilities, furniture, booking fees, or a lease that is difficult to exit if the assignment changes.
Compare the complete housing cost against the complete assignment, and use the PT Salary Center to evaluate current weekly pay alongside the market you are considering.

The advertised rent is only the starting point. Put every required expense into the same comparison before deciding which property is actually less expensive.
A furnished rental with a higher advertised monthly rate can sometimes cost less overall than a lower-priced traditional apartment after furniture, utilities, setup costs, and lease obligations are included. Paying somewhat more to live closer to work may also be worthwhile if the alternative adds substantial mileage, tolls, parking, or commuting time each week.
Before you sign a lease, send a deposit, or make a nonrefundable reservation, confirm the details that could affect the assignment and your ability to change plans.

The Federal Trade Commission recommends independently checking the property and owner or management company, being cautious about unusually low prices or pressure to pay quickly, and avoiding payment methods that make recovering money difficult. Review the FTC's Rental Listing Scams guidance.

A higher weekly pay package does not automatically make one travel PT assignment financially better than another. Compare weekly pay + housing cost + commute + licensing + assignment terms together.
One market may offer higher weekly pay but require substantially more expensive housing. Another assignment may pay slightly less while offering a shorter commute, lower housing expense, or more flexible rental options. The goal is not necessarily to find the cheapest rental. It is to find housing that fits the assignment without giving back unnecessary time, money, or flexibility.
