FAQs – PCU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Golden, CO

What certifications do travel PCU jobs require?
Most travel PCU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Units that care for stroke patients often ask for NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) as well. A Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) credential isn't usually required, but many facilities view it as a plus.
What do facilities require for travel PCU nurses?
Facilities typically want recent progressive care, step-down, or intermediate-care experience with continuous cardiac monitoring, higher-acuity patients, and infusions such as diltiazem, amiodarone, insulin, or heparin. Depending on the unit, post-cath, cardiac, respiratory, or postoperative experience may also matter.
Is PCU the same as step-down or intermediate care?
Often, but not always. PCU, step-down, IMC, and transitional-care labels can describe similar units, but acuity, patient mix, allowed drips, and respiratory support vary by hospital. Compare the actual responsibilities with your experience rather than relying on the unit name alone.
How much trauma experience can a travel nurse get at Lutheran Hospital?
Lutheran Hospital is a Level II trauma center with emergency surgical support that includes vascular and neurosurgical care. Trauma, ED, surgical, and ICU travelers may work with serious injuries as well as complex postoperative patients.
What does stroke care look like at Lutheran Hospital?
The hospital is a Comprehensive Stroke Center with neurocritical care, a dedicated inpatient stroke unit, and rehabilitation services. Neuro travelers may follow patients from acute stroke treatment through monitored inpatient recovery.
Which other populations are common in RN assignments at Lutheran Hospital?
The hospital supports general, orthopedic, neurological, gynecologic, urologic, and robotic surgery along with routine and high-risk maternity and a Level III NICU. Travelers may find roles across adult surgical care and women's and children's services.

Tucked where the Front Range foothills meet the plains, Golden, CO gives travel nurses a scenic base just west of Denver, with light rail running into the city. The local hospital manages emergency and medical-surgical work, with the large Denver market close by. Twenty-five minutes east on US-6 lies Denver, with Boulder north on CO-93 and Lakewood just southeast. Denver has the bigger hospital hub, a quick run east. Housing here runs pricier than the plains suburbs but buys mountains at the doorstep, a fair trade over a longer contract.
