FAQs – ICU Travel Nurse Jobs Near New Haven, CT

What certifications do travel ICU jobs require?
Most travel ICU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Neuro and stroke units commonly add NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and pediatric or mixed units may ask for PALS. The CCRN credential is preferred by many facilities and required by a few.
Will I float on a travel ICU assignment?
It depends on the facility and the contract. ICU travelers may float to PCU, step-down, ER holds, or other critical care areas, while some hospitals limit floating more narrowly. Float expectations are not always visible in the posting, so confirm the policy before accepting an assignment.
What experience is required for travel ICU RN jobs?
Most travel ICU RN jobs require recent critical care experience caring for high-acuity patients and independently managing ventilators, vasoactive drips, sedation, and invasive lines. Some units may also look for experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO, or other advanced therapies. Requirements vary by ICU type, so facilities typically want your recent experience to closely match the patient population, devices, and level of care on the assignment.
Will compact privilege cover this Connecticut travel assignment?
Yes—an active multistate RN license covers this assignment. Connecticut is one of the Nurse Licensure Compact’s newer members, honoring multistate privileges since October 2025. Nurses without compact privilege apply for licensure by endorsement, with a temporary permit available for an earlier start. Our Connecticut Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.
What level of acuity can an RN expect at Yale New Haven Hospital?
Yale New Haven is a large academic hospital with Level I adult and pediatric trauma, comprehensive transplant services, and advanced heart and stroke programs. Travel RNs may work with complex patients across a wide range of high-acuity medical and surgical specialties.
How does Magnet recognition shape the nursing environment at Yale New Haven?
Yale New Haven is a Magnet-designated nursing organization. Travelers joining the hospital can expect an established professional-practice structure within a large academic medical setting.
