FAQs – ICU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Atlanta, GA

What certifications do travel ICU jobs require?
Most travel ICU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Neuro and stroke units commonly add NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and pediatric or mixed units may ask for PALS. The CCRN credential is preferred by many facilities and required by a few.
Will I float on a travel ICU assignment?
It depends on the facility and the contract. ICU travelers may float to PCU, step-down, ER holds, or other critical care areas, while some hospitals limit floating more narrowly. Float expectations are not always visible in the posting, so confirm the policy before accepting an assignment.
What experience is required for travel ICU RN jobs?
Most travel ICU RN jobs require recent critical care experience caring for high-acuity patients and independently managing ventilators, vasoactive drips, sedation, and invasive lines. Some units may also look for experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO, or other advanced therapies. Requirements vary by ICU type, so facilities typically want your recent experience to closely match the patient population, devices, and level of care on the assignment.
Is a separate Georgia license required for this travel assignment?
No—Georgia honors active multistate RN licenses through the Nurse Licensure Compact. For licensure by endorsement, register with GAPS/Idemia when you submit the application, then complete fingerprinting only after the Board’s emailed instructions arrive. Our Georgia Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.
What makes Emory Saint Joseph's a specialty-focused assignment for travel nurses?
Emory Saint Joseph's is a Magnet with Distinction specialty referral hospital known for cardiovascular, surgical, orthopedic, oncology, and neurological care. Travelers may work with complex patients referred for advanced procedures rather than a broad general-trauma population.
How extensive is robotic and minimally invasive surgery at Emory Saint Joseph's?
The Visconti Center for Robotics supports cardiac, thoracic, urologic, gynecologic, and cancer procedures, while orthopedic and spine programs also use minimally invasive approaches. OR, PACU, and surgical-floor travelers may see a wide range of specialty postoperative patients.

Explore Atlanta, GA

One of the Southeast's deepest academic-medicine networks centers on Atlanta, GA, with Emory University Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital among the systems a traveler will quickly recognize. Operating rooms and emergency departments across the metro keep RN assignments circulating among several campuses rather than clustering in one district. Many travelers base in Decatur, Marietta, or Roswell, trading a longer drive for easier suburban housing. Traffic, not job count, tends to be the real variable here, so a short commute often matters more than a central address. The footprint is broad enough that finding the next contract rarely means leaving the metro. Off shift, the BeltLine's miles of walking and cycling paths sit close at hand for an easy way to decompress.
