FAQs – ER Travel Nurse Jobs Near Hazel Crest, IL

What certifications are required for this ER travel job?
Most travel ER jobs require BLS and ACLS. TNCC may be required for trauma care. Pediatric requirements can include PALS, ENPC, or both, depending on whether the facility accepts ENPC in place of PALS. Confirm the required combination before booking a course or renewing credentials.
What recent experience do facilities look for in travel ER nurses?
Facilities typically look for recent emergency department experience caring for a wide range of acuity levels, from lower-acuity patients to unstable patients who may need rapid intervention. Trauma exposure, critical care skills, pediatric experience, and triage experience can all matter depending on the department. The strongest match is usually a recent ER background that reflects the patient volume, acuity, and responsibilities of the assignment.
What types of patients do travel ER nurses typically care for?
Travel ER nurses may care for patients with medical emergencies, injuries, behavioral health needs, cardiac or respiratory conditions, and patients awaiting admission to another unit. Some departments also manage ventilated patients or titratable drips while patients wait for an ICU bed. Patient mix and acuity vary by hospital, so travelers should compare the department’s typical population with their recent experience.
Is an Illinois license needed for this travel assignment?
Yes—unless you already hold an active Illinois RN license. Illinois is not part of the Nurse Licensure Compact, so multistate authority issued elsewhere doesn’t apply. Apply for licensure by endorsement through IDFPR; eligible applicants can request a temporary endorsement permit to begin working while the permanent application is pending. Our Illinois Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.

Illinois offers a pronounced contrast between Chicago‘s metropolitan hospitals and the regional medical communities farther south and west. Travel nurses can experience a dense urban neighborhood, a state-capital setting in Springfield, or a river city such as Peoria. Chicago’s lakefront, museums, and neighborhood food traditions provide many ways to spend time within the city. Elsewhere, state history, riverfront parks, and smaller downtown districts shape the experience. Springfield’s Lincoln landmarks add a distinctive historical focus to central Illinois. An assignment in central or southern Illinois has its own surroundings, with prairie landscapes and wooded areas adding another side of the state beyond the familiar skyline and Lake Michigan shore.
