FAQs – ER Travel Nurse Jobs Near Wichita, KS

What certifications are required for this ER travel job?
Most travel ER jobs require BLS and ACLS. TNCC may be required for trauma care. Pediatric requirements can include PALS, ENPC, or both, depending on whether the facility accepts ENPC in place of PALS. Confirm the required combination before booking a course or renewing credentials.
What recent experience do facilities look for in travel ER nurses?
Facilities typically look for recent emergency department experience caring for a wide range of acuity levels, from lower-acuity patients to unstable patients who may need rapid intervention. Trauma exposure, critical care skills, pediatric experience, and triage experience can all matter depending on the department. The strongest match is usually a recent ER background that reflects the patient volume, acuity, and responsibilities of the assignment.
What types of patients do travel ER nurses typically care for?
Travel ER nurses may care for patients with medical emergencies, injuries, behavioral health needs, cardiac or respiratory conditions, and patients awaiting admission to another unit. Some departments also manage ventilated patients or titratable drips while patients wait for an ICU bed. Patient mix and acuity vary by hospital, so travelers should compare the department’s typical population with their recent experience.
Which license do I need for this Kansas travel assignment?
An active multistate RN license covers this assignment—Kansas is a Nurse Licensure Compact state. For licensure by endorsement, expect a fully paper-based background check: the fingerprint card, signed waiver, and payment are mailed to the Board together as one packet. Our Kansas Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.
What trauma and burn care do travel nurses encounter at Ascension Via Christi Hospital – Wichita?
Ascension Via Christi Hospital – Wichita is an ACS-verified Level I Trauma Center and the region's only burn center, so travelers handle the area's most complex injuries and critical burn cases.
What's it like to work neurocritical care at Ascension Via Christi Hospital – Wichita?
Within a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center, a 20-bed neurocritical care unit led by fellowship-trained physicians (AHA Stroke Gold Plus) gives travelers specialized, high-acuity neuro assignments.

Explore Wichita, KS

From along the Arkansas River and across south-central Kansas, Wichita, KS takes in regional patients, and meeting that demand keeps travel nurses in operating rooms and on med-surg floors. Ascension Via Christi and Wesley Medical Center are the systems behind most of the city's inpatient care. Contracts reach into the neighboring communities of Andover, Derby, and Maize, and the city's straightforward street grid keeps those suburban commutes short. When a shift ends, travelers often head to the Keeper of the Plains, where the two rivers meet, to step away from the clinical day. The flat plains mean wind and the occasional winter storm are the main things to watch on the drive in.
