FAQs – ICU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Alexandria, LA

What certifications do travel ICU jobs require?
Most travel ICU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Neuro and stroke units commonly add NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and pediatric or mixed units may ask for PALS. The CCRN credential is preferred by many facilities and required by a few.
Will I float on a travel ICU assignment?
It depends on the facility and the contract. ICU travelers may float to PCU, step-down, ER holds, or other critical care areas, while some hospitals limit floating more narrowly. Float expectations are not always visible in the posting, so confirm the policy before accepting an assignment.
What experience is required for travel ICU RN jobs?
Most travel ICU RN jobs require recent critical care experience caring for high-acuity patients and independently managing ventilators, vasoactive drips, sedation, and invasive lines. Some units may also look for experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO, or other advanced therapies. Requirements vary by ICU type, so facilities typically want your recent experience to closely match the patient population, devices, and level of care on the assignment.
Can I use my multistate RN license for this Louisiana assignment?
Yes—an active multistate RN license covers this assignment because Louisiana is a Nurse Licensure Compact state. Endorsement applicants should know the process isn’t fully digital: most documents upload through the Nurse Portal, but the background-check packet and notarized affidavit of verification must reach the Board by postal mail. Our Louisiana Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.
What type of assignment can a travel RN expect at Rapides Regional?
Rapides Regional serves Central Louisiana with emergency, medical, surgical, cardiovascular, neuro, and women's and children's care. Travelers may encounter both general acute-care patients and more complex specialty populations.
How broad is trauma and surgical care at Rapides Regional?
Trauma services have access to neurosurgery, orthopedic trauma, hand, oral surgery, and urology, while surgical services span general, colorectal, gynecologic, bariatric, neuro, and orthopedic procedures. ED, OR, ICU, and surgical-floor travelers may see a varied case mix.
