FAQs – Travel Speech Language Pathologist Jobs Near Lewiston, ME

Do I need my CCC-SLP for travel SLP jobs?
Almost always. Along with a license or compact privilege for the assignment state, most facilities require ASHA's Certificate of Clinical Competence, and several states build CCC-equivalent requirements into licensure. ASHA allows clinical fellows to complete their fellowship in many settings, but most agencies and facilities don't place fellows on travel contracts, so finishing the CF first widens your options. BLS is also typically required.
How do medical and school-based travel SLP jobs differ?
Medical SLP roles may focus on swallowing, cognitive-communication, trach or vent populations, and instrumental assessments such as MBS or FEES. School assignments center on evaluations, IEPs, educational participation, progress reporting, and school calendars. The two settings require different experience, workflows, and sometimes additional credentials.
What caseload and responsibilities should I clarify before accepting a travel SLP job?
Ask about setting, age group, caseload size, productivity or service-minute expectations, evaluation responsibilities, documentation, and whether the role includes specialty work such as MBS, FEES, AAC, or IEP management. These details can change the assignment significantly even when two postings share the same SLP title.

Explore Lewiston, ME

Maine’s working waterfronts and creative communities give a stay interest well beyond its famous coastal views. Portland has an established restaurant scene, and Rockland’s art collections reflect the coast’s long appeal to painters. Inland, lake towns and western mountain communities offer a different pace, with farm markets and local crafts connecting visitors to the surrounding countryside. Therapy travelers will also find a care landscape that includes hospital rehabilitation and outpatient physical therapy across the state. Recovery services are part of both urban and smaller communities. Summer can bring sailing trips and meals by the harbor; winter shifts attention toward ski towns and indoor arts. Maine’s seafood, wild blueberries, and independent shops add local character to everyday outings.
