What certifications do travel L&D jobs require?
Most travel L&D jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and a current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) provider card. Many facilities also require an intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring course.
What experience do facilities look for in L&D travel nurses?
Facilities generally want recent labor and delivery experience with fetal monitoring, labor progression, inductions, obstetric emergencies, and higher-risk pregnancies. Experience with magnesium sulfate, preterm labor, hypertensive disorders, and other common L&D scenarios may also be important depending on the unit’s acuity. Travelers should clearly describe the types of patients and deliveries they have managed independently.
How can an L&D nurses responsibilities differ between travel assignments?
The scope of an L&D role can vary significantly by hospital. Some units focus primarily on labor and delivery, while others expect nurses to cover antepartum, postpartum, couplet care, newborn stabilization, or surgical delivery responsibilities. Understanding the areas you may cover can help you compare the assignment with your recent experience and determine whether it is a strong clinical match.
Will North Carolina accept my multistate RN license for this assignment?
Yes—North Carolina is a Nurse Licensure Compact state, so an active multistate RN license covers this assignment. Nurses without compact privilege can apply for licensure by endorsement through the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Our North Carolina Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.

Lincolnton, NC heads Lincoln County northwest of Charlotte, where NC-16 puts the hospital campuses on the metro's north side within about forty-five minutes and Hickory sits a half hour the other way. Local coverage runs to medical-surgical and telemetry work serving the county's mix of mill-town neighborhoods and fast-filling lake country. The western reaches of Lake Norman lie fifteen minutes east, the area's main draw for time off and the reason nearby rentals climb in summer. Downtown's courthouse square keeps the essentials walkable, and the Marcia Cloninger rail-trail runs through the center for easy miles. Rents undercut both Charlotte and the lakefront by a comfortable margin. Travelers who want metro access without metro prices tend to find the arithmetic here works.
