What makes a Med Surg/Tele unit different from a regular Med Surg floor?
Med Surg/Tele adds continuous cardiac monitoring to a general medical-surgical patient mix. Some or all beds may be monitored, and nurses are expected to recognize rhythm changes, respond to alarms, and escalate appropriately. The amount of telemetry work varies by unit, so ask how many monitored beds it runs and what rhythm competency is expected.
What should I check before moving from Med Surg to a Med Surg/Tele travel assignment?
Compare the job's rhythm-interpretation expectations, alarm-response workflow, monitored patient volume, and permitted cardiac medications or infusions with your recent experience. Caring for a patient who happens to be on a monitor is not always the same as independently interpreting rhythms and managing a telemetry assignment.
