What certifications do travel PCU jobs require?
Most travel PCU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Units that care for stroke patients often ask for NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) as well. A Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) credential isn't usually required, but many facilities view it as a plus.
What do facilities require for travel PCU nurses?
Facilities typically want recent progressive care, step-down, or intermediate-care experience with continuous cardiac monitoring, higher-acuity patients, and infusions such as diltiazem, amiodarone, insulin, or heparin. Depending on the unit, post-cath, cardiac, respiratory, or postoperative experience may also matter.
Is PCU the same as step-down or intermediate care?
Often, but not always. PCU, step-down, IMC, and transitional-care labels can describe similar units, but acuity, patient mix, allowed drips, and respiratory support vary by hospital. Compare the actual responsibilities with your experience rather than relying on the unit name alone.
What specialties can travel RNs work in at Frye Regional Medical Center?
Frye Regional provides specialty care across cardiac, neuroscience, oncology, pulmonary, surgical, and orthopedic services. Travel RNs may find assignments that align closely with their existing specialty experience while working within a community hospital setting.
What nursing settings are available at Frye Regional?
Beyond acute floors, Frye Regional runs a 32-bed emergency department, a 29-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit, and an 81-bed adult behavioral-health hospital at its South Campus, spanning emergency, rehab, and psychiatric nursing.
Which charting system does Frye Regional Medical Center use for travel PCU nurses?
Frye Regional Medical Center uses Cerner. Travelers with previous Cerner experience may be able to get comfortable with the hospital’s charting workflows more quickly.
