FAQs – ER Travel Nurse Jobs Near Dayton, OH

What certifications are required for this ER travel job?
Most travel ER jobs require BLS and ACLS. TNCC may be required for trauma care. Pediatric requirements can include PALS, ENPC, or both, depending on whether the facility accepts ENPC in place of PALS. Confirm the required combination before booking a course or renewing credentials.
What recent experience do facilities look for in travel ER nurses?
Facilities typically look for recent emergency department experience caring for a wide range of acuity levels, from lower-acuity patients to unstable patients who may need rapid intervention. Trauma exposure, critical care skills, pediatric experience, and triage experience can all matter depending on the department. The strongest match is usually a recent ER background that reflects the patient volume, acuity, and responsibilities of the assignment.
What types of patients do travel ER nurses typically care for?
Travel ER nurses may care for patients with medical emergencies, injuries, behavioral health needs, cardiac or respiratory conditions, and patients awaiting admission to another unit. Some departments also manage ventilated patients or titratable drips while patients wait for an ICU bed. Patient mix and acuity vary by hospital, so travelers should compare the department’s typical population with their recent experience.
Can I work this Ohio travel assignment on my compact license?
Yes—an active multistate RN license covers this assignment because Ohio is a Nurse Licensure Compact state. Otherwise, endorsement through the Ohio Board of Nursing adds two Ohio-specific steps: a criminal-records check and two contact hours covering Ohio nursing law and rules. Our Ohio Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.
What is the trauma level at Miami Valley Hospital?
Miami Valley Hospital is the Dayton region’s only Level I trauma center. Travel RNs working in emergency, ICU, or trauma-related units can expect exposure to seriously injured patients and complex cases referred from across the region.
Is Miami Valley Hospital a Magnet and teaching hospital?
Yes. Miami Valley Hospital is Magnet-recognized and serves as a major teaching hospital for Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine. Travelers can expect an environment with established nursing standards, clinical education, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Aviation began in a Dayton, OH bicycle shop, and the city wears that legacy everywhere it can, from the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, free and vast out on the base's edge, to the preserved Wright sites scattered downtown. The hospital market covers the Miami Valley with depth, keeping emergency, intensive care, and surgical contracts in rotation. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base shapes both the economy and the patient mix. Housing costs run among the gentlest of any metro this size. The Oregon District's brick blocks hold the nightlife, the region's vast paved-trail network starts from downtown's rivers, and Cincinnati and Columbus each wait about an hour away in opposite directions whenever a contract weekend calls for a second city.
