FAQs – NICU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Columbus, OH

What certifications are required for travel NICU jobs?
Most travel NICU jobs require BLS and a current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) provider card. Many units also require or prefer S.T.A.B.L.E. training, which covers post-resuscitation and pre-transport care. ACLS is usually not needed for NICU. The RNC-NIC credential is a strong plus, especially for Level III and IV units.
Does my NICU level need to match the unit I’m applying to?
Usually, facilities want recent experience at a similar level of care. A Level II background may be a fit for units caring for moderately ill or premature infants, while Level III and IV positions often look for experience with very premature or critically ill newborns, advanced respiratory support, central lines, and other higher-acuity care. Travelers with experience at the same or a higher NICU level generally have the most transferable background.
What kind of NICU experience should I highlight when applying for travel jobs?
Be specific about the gestational ages, acuity levels, and neonatal therapies you have managed independently. Experience with ventilators, CPAP or high-flow support, central lines, TPN, thermoregulation, high-risk deliveries, or neonatal stabilization can all help facilities understand your background. Simply listing “NICU” may not show whether your recent experience matches the needs of the unit.
What trauma and specialty designations does OSU Wexner's University Hospital hold?
University Hospital is an ACS Level I trauma center and home to central Ohio's only adult burn center, the only adult solid-organ transplant program in the region, and a Level III NICU.
Is Ohio State Wexner Medical Center a Magnet hospital?
University Hospital, the Ross Heart Hospital, and The James are all Magnet-designated, and OSU was the first health system in central Ohio to earn Magnet.
Which charting system is used at OSU Wexner by travel NICU RNs?
OSU Wexner uses Epic, known internally as IHIS. Nurses with previous Epic experience may already be familiar with many of the charting and documentation workflows used during an assignment.

Explore Columbus, OH

Across a sprawling central-Ohio metro, Columbus, OH is shaped by two large systems, the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital. Coverage leans on travelers to staff intensive care units and med-surg floors throughout the area. Openings frequently extend into Dublin, Westerville, and Grove City, which give clinicians practical bases and short commutes into the hospital districts. The metro keeps growing outward, which widens where a traveler can reasonably land. The flat, gridded layout and the I-270 outerbelt keep getting around simple, and after demanding stretches the Short North Arts District and the Scioto Mile trails along the river are close by. Between the academic centers and the community campuses, travelers usually have several contract options across central Ohio.
