FAQs – Stepdown Travel Nurse Jobs Near Cleveland, OH

What certifications am I required to have for travel Stepdown jobs?
Most require BLS and ACLS. Neuro and stroke step-down postings often list NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, and some cardiac step-down units add a dysrhythmia exam. PCCN, AACN's progressive care certification, is a relevant plus; step-down hours can count toward its practice-hour requirement when they involve direct care of acutely ill adults.
Can I take a travel Stepdown job with ICU or Med Surg experience?
Sometimes. ICU experience often transfers well, while Med Surg or Med Surg/Tele experience may be considered when it includes continuous monitoring, higher-acuity patients, and relevant infusions. The facility determines whether your background matches the unit's acuity and responsibilities.
What kind of units to Stepdown travel nurse assignment cover?
Stepdown units may focus on cardiac, neuro, surgical, trauma, or general medical patients. One unit may regularly manage post-cath patients and cardiac drips, while another may focus on stroke, post-craniotomy, chest tubes, or complex postoperative care. Reviewing the unit’s patient mix and permitted therapies is important
Should trauma nurses expect Level I trauma cases at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus?
Not currently. The main campus is pursuing Level I trauma designation, but its present high-acuity work is driven more by advanced cardiac, transplant, and complex surgical care than by major trauma admissions.
What documentation system will travel Stepdown RNs be required to use at Cleveland Clinic?
Cleveland Clinic uses Epic for electronic health records and clinical documentation. Travelers with prior Epic experience may already be familiar with many of the core charting workflows.
Is the Cleveland Clinic's main campus a teaching hospital?
The hospital serves as a teaching site for the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and supports a large resident and fellow population. Travel nurses may work alongside physicians in training, subspecialists, and other clinicians within an academic care model.

Explore Cleveland, OH

On the southern shore of Lake Erie, Cleveland, OH runs a dense hospital footprint that leans on travel nurses to stay covered. The RTA rail and bus network links most residential neighborhoods to the main medical campuses, so a car isn't always necessary for the commute. Much of the demand sits in critical care and on med-surg floors, and placements rotate outward into Parma, Lakewood, and Euclid as contracts turn over. Travelers who would rather skip parking often base near a Red Line stop. Between rotations, the Tremont dining scene, the revitalized lakefront trails, and the museums of University Circle fill the hours off. Lake-effect snow can stretch winter commutes, so it's worth factoring weather into where travelers settle.
