FAQs – Labor and Delivery Travel Nurse Jobs Near Sweetwater, TX

What certifications do travel L&D jobs require?
Most travel L&D jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and a current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) provider card. Many facilities also require an intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring course.
What experience do facilities look for in L&D travel nurses?
Facilities generally want recent labor and delivery experience with fetal monitoring, labor progression, inductions, obstetric emergencies, and higher-risk pregnancies. Experience with magnesium sulfate, preterm labor, hypertensive disorders, and other common L&D scenarios may also be important depending on the unit’s acuity. Travelers should clearly describe the types of patients and deliveries they have managed independently.
How can an L&D nurses responsibilities differ between travel assignments?
The scope of an L&D role can vary significantly by hospital. Some units focus primarily on labor and delivery, while others expect nurses to cover antepartum, postpartum, couplet care, newborn stabilization, or surgical delivery responsibilities. Understanding the areas you may cover can help you compare the assignment with your recent experience and determine whether it is a strong clinical match.
Do I need to apply for a Texas nursing license for this travel nurse assignment?
Not if you already hold an active Texas RN license or an active multistate RN license—Texas participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact. If neither applies, you’ll generally need Texas licensure through the Texas Board of Nursing; nurses applying by endorsement must pass the Texas Nursing Jurisprudence Exam. Our Texas Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.

The hospital here serves Nolan County and the surrounding small towns, giving travel contracts the broad community-scale scope rural West Texas demands. Emergency coverage and medical-surgical floor work anchor the majority of assignments here. The housing remains cheap and arranged without drama; commutes barely register. Abilene's larger market waits about forty minutes east on the interstate for bigger errands, restaurants, and occasional additional contracts. Lake Sweetwater offers fishing close to town.
