FAQs – Operating Room Travel Nurse Jobs Near Alpine, TX

What certifications do travel OR jobs require?
Most travel OR positions require Basic Life Support (BLS), and many hospitals also require Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). CNOR is preferred by many facilities but required by only a few. Pediatric ORs may ask for PALS.
What recent OR experience is required for travel OR nurse jobs?
Most OR travel jobs expect confidence in general and orthopedic cases plus several additional service lines such as neuro, spine, urology, GYN, vascular, or ENT. Robotic experience is also commonly requested. Facilities may ask for a service-line skills checklist, so be specific about the cases you have circulated or scrubbed recently.
Do travel OR jobs include call?
Often, yes. Hospital OR assignments commonly include evening, overnight, or weekend call, while outpatient surgery centers are less likely to. Call frequency, required response time, and call pay vary by facility, so confirm all three before you accept.
Do I need to apply for a Texas nursing license for this travel nurse assignment?
Not if you already hold an active Texas RN license or an active multistate RN license—Texas participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact. If neither applies, you’ll generally need Texas licensure through the Texas Board of Nursing; nurses applying by endorsement must pass the Texas Nursing Jurisprudence Exam. Our Texas Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.

Explore Alpine, TX

A mile high in the Davis Mountains' shadow, Alpine, TX serves as the Big Bend region's hub town, where the hospital covers an area of West Texas larger than several states. Contracts here demand the broad scope and self-reliance of true frontier medicine, mixing emergency care with general inpatient duties. The desert light alone converts a fair share of travelers into repeat visitors. Big Bend National Park's canyons open about ninety minutes south, dark-sky stargazing barely requires leaving the porch, and Marfa's art-world outpost sits thirty minutes west. Housing stays modest and close; the whole town walks in fifteen minutes. Trains still roll through downtown, a sound that becomes part of the assignment.
