FAQs – ICU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Richmond, VA

What certifications do travel ICU jobs require?
Most travel ICU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Neuro and stroke units commonly add NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and pediatric or mixed units may ask for PALS. The CCRN credential is preferred by many facilities and required by a few.
Will I float on a travel ICU assignment?
It depends on the facility and the contract. ICU travelers may float to PCU, step-down, ER holds, or other critical care areas, while some hospitals limit floating more narrowly. Float expectations are not always visible in the posting, so confirm the policy before accepting an assignment.
What experience is required for travel ICU RN jobs?
Most travel ICU RN jobs require recent critical care experience caring for high-acuity patients and independently managing ventilators, vasoactive drips, sedation, and invasive lines. Some units may also look for experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO, or other advanced therapies. Requirements vary by ICU type, so facilities typically want your recent experience to closely match the patient population, devices, and level of care on the assignment.
What's it like to work trauma and burn care at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond?
A Virginia-designated Level I Trauma Center and Level I Burn Center on Richmond's Southside, Chippenham Hospital is a 466-bed major trauma and cardiovascular center, where emergency, ICU, and burn nurses see trauma and burn-care volume in a major Richmond referral setting.
What cardiac care will travel nurses find at Chippenham Hospital?
Cardiovascular care through the Levinson Heart Institute includes a cardiovascular ICU and chest-pain and heart-attack services, and the hospital charts on Meditech.
What surgical and behavioral services does Chippenham offer travel nurses?

Explore Richmond, VA

At the center of a clinical catchment that reaches across much of central Virginia sits Richmond, VA. VCU Medical Center and the Bon Secours hospitals handle a good share of the region's patients, and labor-and-delivery and surgical coverage regularly calls for travel RNs. Assignments tend to spread across the metro rather than concentrate downtown, which widens the choice of where to base. After a shift, the Virginia Capital Trail offers a flat, scenic ride and an easy way to step away from the hospital pace. The mix of academic and community campuses gives travelers several contract options without leaving the area, and daily logistics stay workable across a fairly compact metro.
