FAQs – ICU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Madison, WI

What certifications do travel ICU jobs require?
Most travel ICU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Neuro and stroke units commonly add NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and pediatric or mixed units may ask for PALS. The CCRN credential is preferred by many facilities and required by a few.
Will I float on a travel ICU assignment?
It depends on the facility and the contract. ICU travelers may float to PCU, step-down, ER holds, or other critical care areas, while some hospitals limit floating more narrowly. Float expectations are not always visible in the posting, so confirm the policy before accepting an assignment.
What experience is required for travel ICU RN jobs?
Most travel ICU RN jobs require recent critical care experience caring for high-acuity patients and independently managing ventilators, vasoactive drips, sedation, and invasive lines. Some units may also look for experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO, or other advanced therapies. Requirements vary by ICU type, so facilities typically want your recent experience to closely match the patient population, devices, and level of care on the assignment.
What acuity will a travel RN see at UW Health University Hospital?
he hospital is a Level I adult and pediatric trauma center and also houses Wisconsin’s only ABA-verified burn center for both adults and children. Nurses in ED, trauma, burn, or ICU specialties may work with high-acuity patients across both adult and pediatric populations.
What makes UW Health University Hospital stand out for nurses?
One of the nation's largest transplant programs, the state's only Level I trauma and ABA burn center in one facility, an award-winning ECMO/ECPR program, and the NCI-designated Carbone Cancer Center.
What charting platform is used at UW Health University Hospital by travel ICU RNs?
UW Health University Hospital uses Epic for electronic health records and nursing documentation. Travelers familiar with Epic may find the charting environment easier to pick up at the start of an assignment.
