FAQs – ER Travel Nurse Jobs Near San Leandro, CA

What certifications are required for this ER travel job?
Most travel ER jobs require BLS and ACLS. TNCC may be required for trauma care. Pediatric requirements can include PALS, ENPC, or both, depending on whether the facility accepts ENPC in place of PALS. Confirm the required combination before booking a course or renewing credentials.
What recent experience do facilities look for in travel ER nurses?
Facilities typically look for recent emergency department experience caring for a wide range of acuity levels, from lower-acuity patients to unstable patients who may need rapid intervention. Trauma exposure, critical care skills, pediatric experience, and triage experience can all matter depending on the department. The strongest match is usually a recent ER background that reflects the patient volume, acuity, and responsibilities of the assignment.
What types of patients do travel ER nurses typically care for?
Travel ER nurses may care for patients with medical emergencies, injuries, behavioral health needs, cardiac or respiratory conditions, and patients awaiting admission to another unit. Some departments also manage ventilated patients or titratable drips while patients wait for an ICU bed. Patient mix and acuity vary by hospital, so travelers should compare the department’s typical population with their recent experience.
Will my multistate nursing license cover this California travel assignment?
No—California is not a Nurse Licensure Compact state, so a multistate license from another state doesn’t authorize practice here; you’ll need an active California RN license. Apply for licensure by endorsement through the California Board of Registered Nursing and plan ahead—eligible endorsement applicants may also apply for a temporary license while the permanent application is pending. Our California Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.

Licensing in California

Single-state license required. California is not a Nurse Licensure Compact state, so you'll need a state-specific license. Our licensing team handles endorsement and renewals for you. See the California Licensing Center →

Explore San Leandro, CA

San Leandro, CA runs along the East Bay flats between Oakland and Hayward, a practical city whose two BART stations and interstate access make it one of the Bay Area's most efficient contract bases. Travel nurses here reach hospital campuses across the central East Bay, with demand spanning emergency and medical-surgical unit work, and the transit grid makes car-light contracts realistic. The rents undercut Oakland and the peninsula meaningfully, the entire logic of the address. The marina's shoreline park stretches along the bay with flat trails and kite weather. Oakland's food scene starts immediately north, Fremont and the South Bay lie within contract range, and San Francisco waits about thirty minutes by train.
