FAQs – ICU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Alameda, CA

What certifications do travel ICU jobs require?
Most travel ICU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Neuro and stroke units commonly add NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and pediatric or mixed units may ask for PALS. The CCRN credential is preferred by many facilities and required by a few.
Will I float on a travel ICU assignment?
It depends on the facility and the contract. ICU travelers may float to PCU, step-down, ER holds, or other critical care areas, while some hospitals limit floating more narrowly. Float expectations are not always visible in the posting, so confirm the policy before accepting an assignment.
What experience is required for travel ICU RN jobs?
Most travel ICU RN jobs require recent critical care experience caring for high-acuity patients and independently managing ventilators, vasoactive drips, sedation, and invasive lines. Some units may also look for experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO, or other advanced therapies. Requirements vary by ICU type, so facilities typically want your recent experience to closely match the patient population, devices, and level of care on the assignment.
Will my multistate nursing license cover this California travel assignment?
No—California is not a Nurse Licensure Compact state, so a multistate license from another state doesn’t authorize practice here; you’ll need an active California RN license. Apply for licensure by endorsement through the California Board of Registered Nursing and plan ahead—eligible endorsement applicants may also apply for a temporary license while the permanent application is pending. Our California Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.

Resources for this ICU job in Alameda

Explore Alameda, CA

An island city facing San Francisco across the bay, Alameda, CA pairs Victorian neighborhoods with a decommissioned naval base reborn as distilleries and waterfront parkland. Travel nurses base here for assignments across the East Bay, with Oakland's campuses minutes away and demand spanning emergency and intensive care roles. Spirits Alley pours local craft spirits along the former runways, with full San Francisco skyline views thrown in free. The USS Hornet museum keeps a storied aircraft carrier open for tours at the old base. The rents run high here, standard for the Bay, though the island trades nightlife for beach calm and easier parking than its neighbors. San Francisco arrives by ferry across the bay, an honest commute upgrade that turns the workday's bookends into something close to pleasure.
