What certifications do travel L&D jobs require?
Most travel L&D jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and a current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) provider card. Many facilities also require an intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring course.
What experience do facilities look for in L&D travel nurses?
Facilities generally want recent labor and delivery experience with fetal monitoring, labor progression, inductions, obstetric emergencies, and higher-risk pregnancies. Experience with magnesium sulfate, preterm labor, hypertensive disorders, and other common L&D scenarios may also be important depending on the unit’s acuity. Travelers should clearly describe the types of patients and deliveries they have managed independently.
How can an L&D nurses responsibilities differ between travel assignments?
The scope of an L&D role can vary significantly by hospital. Some units focus primarily on labor and delivery, while others expect nurses to cover antepartum, postpartum, couplet care, newborn stabilization, or surgical delivery responsibilities. Understanding the areas you may cover can help you compare the assignment with your recent experience and determine whether it is a strong clinical match.
What type of assignment can a travel RN expect at Lake Cumberland Regional?
Lake Cumberland Regional is a regional acute-care hospital with residency programs, emergency care, multiple ICUs, cardiac services, surgery, maternity, and a Level II neonatal nursery. Travelers may work with a broad community-referral case mix rather than a narrow subspecialty population.
How is critical care organized at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital?
Intensive-care services include neurological, cardiac, medical, and surgical patients. ICU travelers may care for a varied mix of acute illness, postoperative patients, cardiac events, and neurological conditions within the same regional hospital.

The hospital is a Primary Stroke Center and an accredited Chest Pain Center with percutaneous coronary intervention. ED, telemetry, cardiac, and ICU nurses may see patients moving from rapid evaluation into interventional treatment and monitored recovery.

Around Lexington, horse farms lie beyond neighborhoods shaped by a university and its academic hospital community. That combination gives travel nurses a distinctive introduction to Kentucky’s Bluegrass region. Lexington’s specialist care also serves patients from elsewhere in the state, while community hospitals connect smaller cities and rural areas to the wider healthcare network. Louisville brings another large hospital community along the Ohio River. For a stay near Lexington, a farm tour explains the work behind the thoroughbred pastures, and downtown restaurants and performances offer an outing closer to the city center. Horse country has interest beyond race days: the breeding farms and their landscape tell a longer story about the region.
