FAQs – PCU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Lexington, KY

What certifications do travel PCU jobs require?
Most travel PCU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Units that care for stroke patients often ask for NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) as well. A Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) credential isn't usually required, but many facilities view it as a plus.
What do facilities require for travel PCU nurses?
Facilities typically want recent progressive care, step-down, or intermediate-care experience with continuous cardiac monitoring, higher-acuity patients, and infusions such as diltiazem, amiodarone, insulin, or heparin. Depending on the unit, post-cath, cardiac, respiratory, or postoperative experience may also matter.
Is PCU the same as step-down or intermediate care?
Often, but not always. PCU, step-down, IMC, and transitional-care labels can describe similar units, but acuity, patient mix, allowed drips, and respiratory support vary by hospital. Compare the actual responsibilities with your experience rather than relying on the unit name alone.
What makes Baptist Health Lexington a strong specialty assignment for travel nurses?
Baptist Health Lexington is a Magnet tertiary-care hospital with heart, stroke, cancer, orthopedic, critical-care, and maternity services. Travelers may work with complex referral patients in a hospital that also supports research and education.
What should stroke and neuro travelers know about Baptist Health Lexington?
Stroke care includes IV thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy, supported by neurology, neurointerventional, and neurosurgical services. ED, neuro, ICU, and step-down travelers may follow patients from rapid treatment through monitored recovery.
How advanced are maternity services at Baptist Health Lexington?
Maternity care includes antepartum, labor and delivery, mother-baby, and a Level III NICU. L&D and neonatal travelers may care for both routine births and medically fragile newborns within a large tertiary hospital.
