FAQs – ICU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Bastrop, LA

What certifications do travel ICU jobs require?
Most travel ICU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Neuro and stroke units commonly add NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and pediatric or mixed units may ask for PALS. The CCRN credential is preferred by many facilities and required by a few.
Will I float on a travel ICU assignment?
It depends on the facility and the contract. ICU travelers may float to PCU, step-down, ER holds, or other critical care areas, while some hospitals limit floating more narrowly. Float expectations are not always visible in the posting, so confirm the policy before accepting an assignment.
What experience is required for travel ICU RN jobs?
Most travel ICU RN jobs require recent critical care experience caring for high-acuity patients and independently managing ventilators, vasoactive drips, sedation, and invasive lines. Some units may also look for experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO, or other advanced therapies. Requirements vary by ICU type, so facilities typically want your recent experience to closely match the patient population, devices, and level of care on the assignment.
Can I use my multistate RN license for this Louisiana assignment?
Yes—an active multistate RN license covers this assignment because Louisiana is a Nurse Licensure Compact state. Endorsement applicants should know the process isn’t fully digital: most documents upload through the Nurse Portal, but the background-check packet and notarized affidavit of verification must reach the Board by postal mail. Our Louisiana Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.

  • Day One Benefits, Medical, Dental, Vision & 401(k)
  • Relocation and Travel Reimbursement
  • Dedicated team to help with state licensing & renewals
  • Weekly Direct Deposit
  • $1,000 Referral Bonus + $250 Bonus for Your Referral

Explore Bastrop, LA

Louisiana‘s hospital communities sit within regions with distinct food, music, and cultural traditions. New Orleans offers an urban nursing setting with neighborhood life beyond the French Quarter, while Baton Rouge adds a capital-city identity along the Mississippi River. Around Lafayette, Cajun and Creole influences create another regional experience. For travel nurses, that variety can make a longer stay especially rewarding. A local meal or live performance can offer a sense of place without requiring a full-day excursion. Northern Louisiana has its own cities and landscapes, so the state should not be treated as one coastal destination. Spending time in the assigned community allows its particular history and traditions to become part of the experience.
