FAQs – ICU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Brandon, FL

What certifications do travel ICU jobs require?
Most travel ICU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Neuro and stroke units commonly add NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and pediatric or mixed units may ask for PALS. The CCRN credential is preferred by many facilities and required by a few.
Will I float on a travel ICU assignment?
It depends on the facility and the contract. ICU travelers may float to PCU, step-down, ER holds, or other critical care areas, while some hospitals limit floating more narrowly. Float expectations are not always visible in the posting, so confirm the policy before accepting an assignment.
What experience is required for travel ICU RN jobs?
Most travel ICU RN jobs require recent critical care experience caring for high-acuity patients and independently managing ventilators, vasoactive drips, sedation, and invasive lines. Some units may also look for experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO, or other advanced therapies. Requirements vary by ICU type, so facilities typically want your recent experience to closely match the patient population, devices, and level of care on the assignment.
What license do I need for this Florida travel assignment?
An active multistate RN license covers this assignment—Florida is a Nurse Licensure Compact state. Nurses who need a Florida license may qualify for the MOBILE endorsement pathway, which requires at least two years of active practice during the four years immediately before applying, plus background screening. Our Florida Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.

Resources for this ICU job in Brandon

Explore Brandon, FL

Tampa's major eastern suburb, Brandon, FL spreads across unincorporated Hillsborough County, where retail corridors and subdivisions hold a large residential population, and the healthcare demand that comes with it. Many RNs here work emergency and medical-surgical assignments locally or commute into Tampa's larger campuses, a drive that runs easy outside rush hour and predictably slow in the middle of it. Housing costs sit below Tampa's urban core, one reason many RNs on Tampa contracts actually live in Brandon. Riverview extends the suburban band south with newer rentals. The Gulf beaches sit about an hour west for full days off, while Lakeland's smaller market occasionally adds occasional contract options east along the interstate corridor.
