FAQs – ICU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Largo, FL

What certifications do travel ICU jobs require?
Most travel ICU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Neuro and stroke units commonly add NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and pediatric or mixed units may ask for PALS. The CCRN credential is preferred by many facilities and required by a few.
Will I float on a travel ICU assignment?
It depends on the facility and the contract. ICU travelers may float to PCU, step-down, ER holds, or other critical care areas, while some hospitals limit floating more narrowly. Float expectations are not always visible in the posting, so confirm the policy before accepting an assignment.
What experience is required for travel ICU RN jobs?
Most travel ICU RN jobs require recent critical care experience caring for high-acuity patients and independently managing ventilators, vasoactive drips, sedation, and invasive lines. Some units may also look for experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO, or other advanced therapies. Requirements vary by ICU type, so facilities typically want your recent experience to closely match the patient population, devices, and level of care on the assignment.
What license do I need for this Florida travel assignment?
An active multistate RN license covers this assignment—Florida is a Nurse Licensure Compact state. Nurses who need a Florida license may qualify for the MOBILE endorsement pathway, which requires at least two years of active practice during the four years immediately before applying, plus background screening. Our Florida Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.

Resources for this ICU job in Largo

Explore Largo, FL

At the center of Pinellas County's dense retirement corridor, Largo, FL rides a snowbird season that reshapes hospital census every winter and keeps travel nursing demand on a predictable annual rhythm. Telemetry and medical-surgical units carry the heaviest loads from November through April. The county is essentially one continuous suburb, so Clearwater, Pinellas Park, and Seminole all sit within fifteen minutes and widen both the housing and contract search. Rentals near the Gulf run higher; inland blocks save real money. The botanical gardens and Central Park's free concerts anchor low-cost time off, and the beaches stretch the full length of the county a short drive west, least crowded on the weekday mornings before the winter snowbird season reaches its loud and sun-burned peak.
