FAQs – PCU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Tallahassee, FL

What certifications do travel PCU jobs require?
Most travel PCU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Units that care for stroke patients often ask for NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) as well. A Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) credential isn't usually required, but many facilities view it as a plus.
What do facilities require for travel PCU nurses?
Facilities typically want recent progressive care, step-down, or intermediate-care experience with continuous cardiac monitoring, higher-acuity patients, and infusions such as diltiazem, amiodarone, insulin, or heparin. Depending on the unit, post-cath, cardiac, respiratory, or postoperative experience may also matter.
Is PCU the same as step-down or intermediate care?
Often, but not always. PCU, step-down, IMC, and transitional-care labels can describe similar units, but acuity, patient mix, allowed drips, and respiratory support vary by hospital. Compare the actual responsibilities with your experience rather than relying on the unit name alone.

Explore Tallahassee, FL

Under live oaks in Florida's capital, Tallahassee, FL works on a rhythm unlike coastal Florida, where government and university calendars shape the year, and the hospital market follows its own steadier beat. Visiting nurses here cover emergency plus labor and delivery assignments, with the patient base reaching into rural counties across the region. The housing spreads from midtown's older neighborhoods to newer developments toward the suburbs; rentals near the universities tighten each August. Crawfordville and Havana extend options who prefer small-town living within a half-hour drive. Maclay Gardens blooms spectacularly in early spring, and the St. Marks refuge puts lighthouse, marsh, and migrating birds forty minutes south for a recurring day-off ritual.
