FAQs – Labor and Delivery Travel Nurse Jobs Near Peoria, IL

What certifications do travel L&D jobs require?
Most travel L&D jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and a current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) provider card. Many facilities also require an intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring course.
What experience do facilities look for in L&D travel nurses?
Facilities generally want recent labor and delivery experience with fetal monitoring, labor progression, inductions, obstetric emergencies, and higher-risk pregnancies. Experience with magnesium sulfate, preterm labor, hypertensive disorders, and other common L&D scenarios may also be important depending on the unit’s acuity. Travelers should clearly describe the types of patients and deliveries they have managed independently.
How can an L&D nurses responsibilities differ between travel assignments?
The scope of an L&D role can vary significantly by hospital. Some units focus primarily on labor and delivery, while others expect nurses to cover antepartum, postpartum, couplet care, newborn stabilization, or surgical delivery responsibilities. Understanding the areas you may cover can help you compare the assignment with your recent experience and determine whether it is a strong clinical match.
Is an Illinois license needed for this travel assignment?
Yes—unless you already hold an active Illinois RN license. Illinois is not part of the Nurse Licensure Compact, so multistate authority issued elsewhere doesn’t apply. Apply for licensure by endorsement through IDFPR; eligible applicants can request a temporary endorsement permit to begin working while the permanent application is pending. Our Illinois Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.
As the only Level I trauma center for its 26-county region, what acuity will travel nurses see at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria?
The only Level I adult and pediatric trauma center for its 26-county mid-Illinois region, OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center is a 600-plus-bed tertiary teaching hospital.
How do Magnet status and a teaching affiliation shape the RN environment at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center?

Explore Peoria, IL

Along the Illinois River, Peoria, IL serves as a referral hub for much of the middle of the state. OSF Saint Francis Medical Center is the regional anchor, and its critical-care and inpatient units lean on travel nurses to hold coverage. Many clinicians base in East Peoria or Morton, both a quick drive from the main campuses, where parking is rarely the headache it is in bigger metros. Because Peoria pulls patients from a wide rural catchment, demand holds through the year rather than swinging with the seasons. The RiverFront Trail and the Peoria Riverfront Museum sit nearby for a low-key day off. For a mid-size market, that regional-referral role is what keeps the work coming.
