FAQs – ER Travel Nurse Jobs Near St. Louis, MO

What certifications are required for this ER travel job?
Most travel ER jobs require BLS and ACLS. TNCC may be required for trauma care. Pediatric requirements can include PALS, ENPC, or both, depending on whether the facility accepts ENPC in place of PALS. Confirm the required combination before booking a course or renewing credentials.
What recent experience do facilities look for in travel ER nurses?
Facilities typically look for recent emergency department experience caring for a wide range of acuity levels, from lower-acuity patients to unstable patients who may need rapid intervention. Trauma exposure, critical care skills, pediatric experience, and triage experience can all matter depending on the department. The strongest match is usually a recent ER background that reflects the patient volume, acuity, and responsibilities of the assignment.
What types of patients do travel ER nurses typically care for?
Travel ER nurses may care for patients with medical emergencies, injuries, behavioral health needs, cardiac or respiratory conditions, and patients awaiting admission to another unit. Some departments also manage ventilated patients or titratable drips while patients wait for an ICU bed. Patient mix and acuity vary by hospital, so travelers should compare the department’s typical population with their recent experience.
Is a Missouri license necessary for this travel assignment?
No—Missouri belongs to the Nurse Licensure Compact, so an active multistate RN license covers this assignment. Applying by endorsement instead? Sequence and accuracy matter: apply through MOPRO before registering for fingerprints, and make sure your name, birth date, and Social Security number match across both systems, or the fingerprint step may have to be repeated. Our Missouri Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.
What kind of hospital is Barnes-Jewish in St. Louis, MO?
Barnes-Jewish is a large, high-acuity academic medical center with opportunities across ICU, step-down, med/surg, cardiac, transplant, oncology, and Level I trauma. For travelers, that can mean exposure to complex patient populations, specialized units, and a fast-paced clinical environment where strong recent experience is especially valuable.
What EMR will ER travel RNs be required to use at Barnes-Jewish?
Barnes-Jewish uses Epic for electronic health records and clinical documentation. Travelers with previous Epic experience may be able to get comfortable with the hospital’s charting workflows more quickly.
