FAQs – ICU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Oklahoma City, OK

What certifications do travel ICU jobs require?
Most travel ICU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Neuro and stroke units commonly add NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and pediatric or mixed units may ask for PALS. The CCRN credential is preferred by many facilities and required by a few.
Will I float on a travel ICU assignment?
It depends on the facility and the contract. ICU travelers may float to PCU, step-down, ER holds, or other critical care areas, while some hospitals limit floating more narrowly. Float expectations are not always visible in the posting, so confirm the policy before accepting an assignment.
What experience is required for travel ICU RN jobs?
Most travel ICU RN jobs require recent critical care experience caring for high-acuity patients and independently managing ventilators, vasoactive drips, sedation, and invasive lines. Some units may also look for experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO, or other advanced therapies. Requirements vary by ICU type, so facilities typically want your recent experience to closely match the patient population, devices, and level of care on the assignment.
Will Oklahoma take my compact license for this travel assignment?
Yes—an active multistate RN license covers this assignment because Oklahoma is a full Nurse Licensure Compact member. For endorsement, submit the application before completing any fingerprinting—the Board sends the required instructions through the Nurse Portal after submission, and background checks completed out of sequence aren’t accepted. Our Oklahoma Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.
What kind of high-acuity care can travel nurses expect at Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City?
Mercy combines Level III trauma, Comprehensive Stroke Center care, neuroscience, surgery, cancer, maternity, and neonatal services. Travelers may work with medically complex patients across emergency, neuro, surgical, and maternal-newborn settings.
What should neuro travelers know about Mercy Oklahoma City?
The hospital has a Comprehensive Stroke Center, acute stroke team, neurosurgical services, dedicated neuro ICU beds, and the Meinders NeuroScience Institute. Neuro, ICU, and ED travelers may care for patients with stroke, tumors, movement disorders, and other complex neurological conditions.
