FAQs – Travel X-Ray Tech Jobs Near Chesapeake, VA

What certifications are required for a travel X-Ray Tech job?
Current ARRT certification and registration in Radiography, ARRT (R), and BLS are common requirements, along with a state license or certification where required. Assignments involving fluoroscopy or OR C-arm work may require an additional permit.
What X-Ray experience do I need to apply for travel X-Ray Tech jobs?
Facilities typically want recent experience working independently with the types of imaging responsibilities included in the role. Travelers should highlight the settings they have worked in, the equipment they are comfortable using, and any experience with portable imaging, emergency departments, operating rooms, or other areas outside a standard radiology department. Showing the breadth of your recent experience can help facilities determine how quickly you can step into the assignment.
Do travel X-Ray Tech jobs usually include work outside the main imaging department?
They can. Hospital-based assignments may involve portable exams, emergency department coverage, operating room imaging, or other responsibilities throughout the facility. The amount of cross-coverage varies by hospital, so it is helpful to understand where technologists are expected to work and whether any additional competencies or permits are required before accepting the assignment.
Does every Virginia X-Ray Tech job require a state license?
It depends on the work setting. Virginia generally requires an active radiologic technologist license, and ARRT certification may be used to meet the state’s licensing requirements. However, certain positions with hospitals, health systems, or affiliated urgent care centers may be exempt. Review the facility requirements and current guidance from the Virginia Board of Medicine.

Explore Chesapeake, VA

Virginia’s regional variety runs from the Appalachian mountains to Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic shore. Charlottesville pairs university life with academic imaging and research, adding a substantial clinical community to its appeal for allied travelers. Richmond offers a larger capital-city mix of restaurants, art, and riverfront neighborhoods, while Northern Virginia has international communities and access to Washington’s cultural institutions. Along the coast, Norfolk’s maritime character contrasts with Virginia Beach and the quieter Eastern Shore. Shenandoah’s mountain scenery, the historic sites around Williamsburg, and Southwest Virginia’s musical traditions give longer trips a clear sense of place. Seasonal farm markets and local seafood make the state rewarding to explore through food as well as history.
