What certifications are required for this ICU travel nurse position?
Every ICU travel nurse position will require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). If you’re heading to a neuro or stroke unit, you’ll also need NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Certifications like CCRN and PALS can be required in specialized units—and they’re always great to have to open up more opportunities. What kind of critical care experience is preferred for travel ICU jobs?
Facilities generally look for at least 2 years of recent critical care experience and confidence caring for complex or unstable patients. Will my multistate nursing license cover this California travel assignment?
No—California is not a Nurse Licensure Compact state, so a multistate license from another state doesn’t authorize practice here; you’ll need an active California RN license. Apply for licensure by endorsement through the California Board of Registered Nursing and plan ahead—eligible endorsement applicants may also apply for a temporary license while the permanent application is pending. Our California Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.

Explore Sonora, CA

A Gold Rush-era town in the Sierra Nevada foothills, Sonora, CA carries its Mother Lode history into a present-day role as a regional care hub for Tuolumne County. Travel nurses here often find work in medical-surgical units and broader inpatient coverage at the area's hospital, which serves a population spread across the foothills. Nearby Jamestown, Twain Harte, Columbia, and Groveland feed patients in along Highways 108 and 49. Elevation makes the weather a daily factor: winter snow on the higher grades and summer wildfire smoke can both slow the drive, so travelers keep an eye on the forecast as the roads change with the season. On days off, the Stanislaus River and the trails toward Yosemite's northern gateway sit within reach for a change of pace.
