FAQs – PCU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Atlanta, GA

What certifications do travel PCU jobs require?
Most travel PCU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Units that care for stroke patients often ask for NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) as well. A Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) credential isn't usually required, but many facilities view it as a plus.
What do facilities require for travel PCU nurses?
Facilities typically want recent progressive care, step-down, or intermediate-care experience with continuous cardiac monitoring, higher-acuity patients, and infusions such as diltiazem, amiodarone, insulin, or heparin. Depending on the unit, post-cath, cardiac, respiratory, or postoperative experience may also matter.
Is PCU the same as step-down or intermediate care?
Often, but not always. PCU, step-down, IMC, and transitional-care labels can describe similar units, but acuity, patient mix, allowed drips, and respiratory support vary by hospital. Compare the actual responsibilities with your experience rather than relying on the unit name alone.
What should a travel RN expect from the academic environment at Emory University Hospital?
Emory University Hospital is an adult academic medical center with Magnet recognition and highly specialized medical, surgical, cardiac, neurological, and transplant services. Travelers can expect complex referral patients and regular collaboration with physicians, trainees, and specialty teams.
How specialized is critical care at Emory University Hospital?
Critical care is divided across medical, surgical, abdominal transplant, cardiothoracic and heart-lung transplant, coronary, and neuroscience ICUs. Experienced ICU travelers may work in highly focused units built around specific patient populations.
Which transplant services may shape RN assignments at Emory University Hospital?
Emory performs heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, and combined organ transplants. Travel nurses in transplant, surgical, cardiac, or critical care may care for patients before surgery, immediately after transplant, and during complex recovery.

Explore Atlanta, GA

One of the Southeast's deepest academic-medicine networks centers on Atlanta, GA, with Emory University Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital among the systems a traveler will quickly recognize. Operating rooms and emergency departments across the metro keep RN assignments circulating among several campuses rather than clustering in one district. Many travelers base in Decatur, Marietta, or Roswell, trading a longer drive for easier suburban housing. Traffic, not job count, tends to be the real variable here, so a short commute often matters more than a central address. The footprint is broad enough that finding the next contract rarely means leaving the metro. Off shift, the BeltLine's miles of walking and cycling paths sit close at hand for an easy way to decompress.
