FAQs – ER Travel Nurse Jobs Near New Orleans, LA

Are there other ER travel nursing jobs near New Orleans, Louisiana?

Yes! Advantis Medical frequently staffs ER travel RN jobs in nearby areas. For your convenience, our similar jobs are sorted by distance so you can quickly review jobs that are close by.

If more than one contract looks like a fit, selecting “I’m Interested” on multiple assignments can give you more options to discuss with your recruiter.

What certifications are required for this ER travel nurse position?
Most travel ER jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), with Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) often needed if pediatric patients are involved. Many facilities also prefer the Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), though it’s not always required. Specific requirements vary by unit—click "I’m Interested" to connect with a professional recruiter who can walk you through the exact certifications needed for this role.
How much ER experience do I need for this travel assignment?
Most travel ER jobs look for at least 2 years of recent emergency department experience and confidence caring for patients with a wide range of needs and acuity levels. Depending on the facility, experience with triage, trauma, pediatric patients, or high-volume emergency departments may also be preferred. Click “I’m Interested” to connect with a recruiter about assignment-specific requirements.
Can I use my multistate RN license for this Louisiana assignment?
Yes—an active multistate RN license covers this assignment because Louisiana is a Nurse Licensure Compact state. Endorsement applicants should know the process isn’t fully digital: most documents upload through the Nurse Portal, but the background-check packet and notarized affidavit of verification must reach the Board by postal mail. Our Louisiana Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.
What is Ochsner Medical Center, and what nursing work does it concentrate?
It's the 767-bed flagship of Ochsner Health near New Orleans — a tertiary referral center where RNs work transplant, cardiac, oncology, and complex surgical units; it's been named the best hospital in Louisiana by U.S. News for over a decade.
Does Ochsner Medical Center carry ANCC Magnet status?
It's a five-time ANCC Magnet recipient — a level of recognition only a small fraction of U.S. hospitals reach.
Which specialty units can RNs work in at Ochsner Medical Center?
Its three centers of excellence — the Multi-Organ Transplant Center, the Heart & Vascular Institute, and the Cancer Institute — anchor the specialty units, and all of Ochsner Health's heart transplants are performed here.
Does Ochsner Medical Center take trauma?
Ochsner is not the region's designated trauma center (University Medical Center New Orleans holds the Level I); its acuity comes from transplant, advanced heart failure, and complex surgical care, including the SynCardia total artificial heart.
What's the charting system at Ochsner Medical Center?
Epic, which Ochsner Health has used since 2012 (its patient portal is MyOchsner).

Explore New Orleans, LA

A hospital market as distinctive as the city itself runs through New Orleans, LA, with systems spread from the downtown medical district across the parishes and travel demand spanning emergency, intensive care, and surgical assignments. The patient mix and the culture reward nurses who settle in rather than pass through. The streetcar lines still work as actual transit, the French Quarter belongs to visitors while locals claim the Bywater and Mid-City, and the food and music calendars simply never stop. Metairie and the West Bank communities widen the search at gentler prices. The housing strategy matters; rents vary enormously by neighborhood, and matching home to campus tames the daily logistics. Few contracts anywhere in the country offer a traveler this much city to work with.
