FAQs – ICU Travel Nurse Jobs Near Round Rock, TX

What certifications do travel ICU jobs require?
Most travel ICU jobs require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Neuro and stroke units commonly add NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and pediatric or mixed units may ask for PALS. The CCRN credential is preferred by many facilities and required by a few.
Will I float on a travel ICU assignment?
It depends on the facility and the contract. ICU travelers may float to PCU, step-down, ER holds, or other critical care areas, while some hospitals limit floating more narrowly. Float expectations are not always visible in the posting, so confirm the policy before accepting an assignment.
What experience is required for travel ICU RN jobs?
Most travel ICU RN jobs require recent critical care experience caring for high-acuity patients and independently managing ventilators, vasoactive drips, sedation, and invasive lines. Some units may also look for experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO, or other advanced therapies. Requirements vary by ICU type, so facilities typically want your recent experience to closely match the patient population, devices, and level of care on the assignment.
Do I need to apply for a Texas nursing license for this travel nurse assignment?
Not if you already hold an active Texas RN license or an active multistate RN license—Texas participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact. If neither applies, you’ll generally need Texas licensure through the Texas Board of Nursing; nurses applying by endorsement must pass the Texas Nursing Jurisprudence Exam. Our Texas Nursing License Guide has current fees, timelines, and step-by-step instructions.
What emergency and stroke acuity can travel nurses expect at Ascension Seton Williamson in Round Rock?
A Level II Adult Trauma Center and a DNV Primary Stroke Plus Center — the highest stroke certification in Williamson County, with endovascular thrombectomy and AHA Stroke Gold Plus — Ascension Seton Williamson runs strong emergency and stroke acuity north of Austin.
What cardiac and surgical work will travel nurses find at Ascension Seton Williamson?
A Primary Heart Attack Center anchors emergency cardiac care, alongside neurological, plastic, and musculoskeletal surgical services.

Licensing in Texas

Compact license accepted. Texas is a Nurse Licensure Compact state, and our team handles endorsement and renewals for you. See the Texas Licensing Center →

Explore Round Rock, TX

An actual round rock still sitting in Brushy Creek gave Round Rock, TX its name, a marker on the old cattle trail that now holds one of the Austin metro's major suburban hubs. Travel nurses set up here and work contracts across the whole corridor, with hiring demand running through emergency department and surgical unit roles as the north-metro population keeps right on climbing. The cost of housing undercuts Austin proper while I-35 and SH-45 keep the commute map flexible. The minor-league Express play summer ball at their local park, and Brushy Creek's trail system threads the town for daily miles. Downtown Austin is twenty-five minutes south when traffic cooperates, live music, food trailers, and all.
