Waterbury, CT built its reputation on brass, and the old factory city on the Naugatuck River still goes by the Brass City. It is one of the larger cities in the state, set in New Haven County's northern corner where I-84 and Route 8 cross at the interchange locals call the Mixmaster. Day to day, diagnostic labs and rehab centers take on much of the allied work around the city. I-84 reaches Hartford to the east and Danbury to the west, each about half an hour out, while Route 8 follows the valley south toward Bridgeport. A Metro-North branch runs south from downtown toward the main line. New Haven lies roughly twenty miles south, and Bradley International is the longer drive northeast for most flights.
